PANJIM: The businessman who accused IPS officer Sunil Garg of bribery has questioned the Chief Secretary for not acting on the preliminary inquiry report of the Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) that recommended registering a First Information Report (FIR) against the police officer.

“Some bureaucrats are trying to hush up my complaints by giving ample opportunity to Garg to destroy the evidence which ultimately pose threats to me and my family,” Munnalal Halwai said at a press conference on Saturday.

He raised apprehensions that the case will be forgotten through the delay tactics and hinted that the government was showing favouritism towards the former Inspector General of Police.

Halwai alleged that Garg had demanded and accepted a bribe from a businessman to register a cheating FIR at Ponda Police Station. The complainant who filed the case at various levels, including a local court and with the Lokayukta, alleged he had paid a bribe of Rs 5.5 lakh to Garg and that he has an audio clip.

The businessman pointed out that while FIRs in other cases are being registered without delays, his case was an exception as the government has so far ‘not done anything even after recommendation by top officials of the ACB since prima facie case is corruption is made out’.
