PANJIM: Vasco-based businessman Munnalal Halwai has filed a petition before the High Court pleading to direct the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to decide in a time-bound manner his application seeking sanction to file a First Information Report against former IGP Sunil Garg in a bribery case.

Munnalal, in his complaint to ACB has alleged that Garg demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs 5.5 lakh from him to get his FIR registered in a cheating case.

The High Court of Bombay at Goa had earlier set aside the order of the North Goa sessions court directing Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), Directorate of Vigilance, to file a First Information Report (FIR) against Garg in the corruption case.

Earlier this year, the session’s court had passed an order on a criminal miscellaneous application filed by Halwai before the special court in 2016, seeking directions to the police to register an  First Information Report against Garg whom he accused of taking a bribe.
