MAPUSA: Former Calangute sarpanch Joseph Sequeira has alleged that MLA Michael Lobo is shielding drug pedlars in Calangute.

Addressing a press conference, Sequeira claimed that on August 12, Lobo told the people that he knew the names of police officers involved in drugs. “If so, why is he not revealing their names?” he questioned. 

Giving reasons for Lobo not revealing the names of police officers involved in drugs, Sequeira said, “it is because his own people are involved in drugs.”  

On Lobo’s alleged claim that youth and women were not safe in Calangute, Sequeira asked what the MLA was doing since the last six years that his party is in power, to ensure the safety of the youth and women. 

Sequeira alleged drug is being sold at Calangute Tinto and GTDC building.

“The previous panchayat body wrote several letters to the authorities informing them about these activities but no action was taken,” he said adding, “From Baga Deck till Tito’s lane Nigerians are selling drugs, but police are scarred to even touch these Nigerians. The eyes of authorities have been opened now when two persons died in Anjuna after a party.”
