VASCO: A victory rally celebration by the students of MES College became a major nuisance for the residents of Zuarinagar area on Saturday afternoon.

According to the information, the election for the student’s council of MES College was held on Saturday and to celebrate their victory, students as well as some outsiders took out a rally from the college campus to MES college main road and back, and this continued for over one hour. However, the victory rally was a major nuisance for the residents of the area.

“Actually, what I saw today was a total violation of traffic rules with several bikers accompanied by few cars were seen blowing loud horn; some bikers performing stunts; some bikers braking suddenly and making huge sound through modified silencers,” said Sharan Meti, who witnessed the nuisance created by the students. Meti is a former Sancoale sarpanch and a resident of MES college residential area.

Describing the victory rally, Meti said, “The scene during student’s victory rally was indeed horrible, worrisome and unexpected as it posed serious risk to the other commuters and pedestrians.”

The issue of nuisance created by students on Saturday also became a serious topic of discussion in different WhatsApp groups wherein a majority of the citizens expressed their anger against the nuisance.

“Our area has gained popularity, for being an educational hub. Every day, soon after college gets over, our main road gets crowded in the afternoon and that is when our problem actually starts as many of these teenagers then use our road for performing stunts on their bikes and blowing loud horn,” said Deepa Goti, a housewife and local a resident.

“Sadly, despite of our complaints to the traffic police and RTO no action has been initiated yet,” lamented Goti.

Angered at the nuisance by the students, Vidyanagar Residents Welfare Association has decided to take up the issue with the MES college officials as well as with traffic authorities.

“On behalf of the residents, our association will surely take up the issue with the principals of MES College and higher secondary school to ensure that students don’t stage such rallies in future,” Association President Edward Fernandes said.
