VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes on Thursday wrote to the administrator of comunidades, south zone, requesting him to provide 5000 square meters of land in any of the neighboring panchayat so that the land can be used as temporary site for dumping of garbage till up-gradation of garbage treatment plant owned by MMC becomes a reality.

On Thursday, Herald highlighted the MMC’s improper garbage disposal policy due to which the much awaited up gradation of garbage treatment plant is held up since last several years. Herald had also highlighted that though the contractor is doing his best to clear the waste so as to facilitate the plant up-gradation, continued dumping of waste at the plant is thwarting his efforts.

“Indeed we have taken cognizance of the Herald report and I have already forwarded a request to the administrator of comunidades, south zone, for 5000 square meters of land so that we can use it a alternate site for dumping of garbage collected by the municipality. This land would be used temporarily and once our plant is upgraded, we will start using our own facility for disposing garbage,” Fernandes said.
