VASCO: The Mormugao Municipality has directed its market inspectors to take up anti-encroachment drives throughout its jurisdiction and show compliance soon.

The Council said that it has been receiving many complaints from the public that the footpaths are full of encroachments and needs to be cleared.

Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes said, “This is the mandate of law and no laxity will be tolerated. I have also visited the sites and found that at many places the vendors have encroached upon the footpath narrowing the pathway. Similarly, all the passages and balconies are seen as dumping spaces for unwanted material including e-waste turning into scrap yards.”

The municipal inspectors have been directed to conduct encroachment drives from September 20 and clear all the encroachments on the footpaths.
