VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has decided to act tough on citizens found not cooperating in the ongoing door-to-door garbage collection system in all 25 wards of the Council.

While moving towards our goal of making ‘Vasco garbage free’ city by January 26, 2018 we have been facing certain hiccups like non cooperation by erring citizens in the ongoing door-to-door collection of garbage scheme. We are trying to keep Vasco clean some I don’t know why people living in individual houses, apartments, residential societies etc are refusing to give their garbage to the contractor appointed by the council, MMC Chief Officer Agnelo A Fernandes said, after a special meeting called by Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida and attended by MMC Councillors, Municipal staffs and others at Mormugao Deputy Collector’s office in Vasco on Friday.

“If they have any genuine reason they have to give me in writing, otherwise if they don’t cooperate then I will be compelled to take steps against them. I may even withdraw the NOC given to them for water and electricity connections,” he added.

The agenda of the meeting was to review the situation on garbage front and to take remedial measures in order to achieve the target of making ‘Vasco Garbage free’ city by January 26, 2018.
