MARGAO: Tension gripped the Housing Board on Sunday afternoon after the locals thrashed a burqa-clad man for allegedly trying to kidnap a child.

At around 11.30 am, a burqa-clad person was seen at Sahinagar and allegedly picked up one of the few children playing there. As the child cried, the crowd gathered and began questioning the person and when the locals removed the burqa, it was discovered that the person was a man.

The locals thrashed the person thinking that he had disguised himself to kidnap children. The man was later handed over to the Maina Curtorim Police. It was found that the person was mentally unsound. The police have kept him under preventive detention and a medical opinion will be sought from IPHB.
