MAPUSA: The Mapusa People’s Union has demanded open in auctioning of 54 shops located in the municipal market.

In a letter to the Mapusa Municipal Council chief officer, the Union has requested that the newly constructed 54 shops be leased out through open action and that priority be given to Mapusa residents.

Drawing the attention of the chief officer to the promise made by local MLA Francis D’Souza that Mapusa residents would be given preference while auctioning the 54 shops, the Union regretted that by inviting sealed quotation for the shops the MLA is backing off from his promise.

Meanwhile, the Union has claimed that the municipality suffered a loss of around Rs 1 crore in constructing the 54 shops.

, hence, it has demanded a vigilance enquiry to fix accountability for the loss.
