Meet educates Shelpe locals against diseases

VALPOI: The Community Health Center, Valpoi organised an advocacy programme at Shelpe village to educate the villagers against disease like shigella.

The Primary Health Center, Valpoi have requested Shelpe villagers not to defecate in the open and stop using river water.

Doctor have requested the villagers to wash their hands with soap properly and advised them not to keep food in open places, besides keeping the home and surrounding clean. Abhijeet Wadkar told villagers that shigella bacteria is primarily a minor disease with a big impact, which could be cured with oral rehydration salts (ORS).

Doctors also showed a video in which polluted water was affecting health and how diarrhoea is initiated.

Sarpanch Parag Khadilkar said he had made a list of people who do not have toilets in their homes and had taken up the matter with higher authority. “I am also working to provide water to Shelpe villagers from water treatment plant of Dabose village,” he said. 

Around 100 villagers were present for the information and education programme.
