SANGUEM: At a special meeting held at Sanguem Municipal Council to resolve the issue of parking problem in the town area, the municipal authorities along with traffic officials have initiated various measures to tackle the issue of haphazard parking.

Besides the Chief Officer, councillors and the traffic officials, the meeting was also attended by the Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar. Incidentally, the meeting held this week was the fourth such meet conducted by the Sanguem Municipality on the issue of parking problem in the town area.

It was unanimously decided to stop parking of vehicles at the entry point to Sanguem bus stand from Uguem. The parking of vehicles, particularly two-wheelers at the entry point would cause problems for entry and exit of vehicles to the Sanguem bus stand.

The meeting also resolved to do away with the parking of private vehicles used for hire at the Sanguem bus stand. The open area inside the Sanguem bus stand in front of the municipality-owned shops would now be earmarked for parking of private vehicles visiting the market.

Similarly, the area behind the sixteen stall building will also be used for parking of private vehicles, informed sources. Parking along the National Highway in front of the fish market will be banned and those parking vehicles despite the notification will be fined.

The meeting also resolved to put necessary signboards wherever necessary to do away with illegal and haphazard parking of vehicles in the town area which causes severe hardship to the commuters and other vehicle users.
