PANJIM: Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday forecast that a weakened offshore trough has resulted in sparse rainfall in the past two days.

Speaking to Herald, Met Director, M L Sahu said, “If the Arabian Sea trough is strong we get good rain and similarly also in the Bay of Bengal. The reason for less rainfall in the last two days is because of the weakened offshore trough.”

The department has forecast light to moderate rain/thundershowers over the next few days, and heavy rainfall at isolated places from June 27.

The IMD release says, “Pernem and Valpoi recorded 2 cm each while Mapusa, Ponda, Panjim, Ela (Old Goa), Sankhali and Sanguem received 1 cm each.” There is no warning to fishermen on the Goa and Maharashtra coast.

The forecast for Panjim in the next 24 hours is one or two spells of rain/thundershowers with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 32 and 25 degrees Celsius.
