SANGUEM: The Sanguem Municipal Council (SMC) in association with the Government Primary Health Centre, Sanguem and police officials conducted a blood test of the migrant labourers working at different places in Sanguem.

The surprise check up commenced at 7.30 am at the Sanguem bus stand and immediately after the labourers alighted from their buses, the police team accompanied the labourers to the bus shed wherein a team of Sanguem PHC officials took blood samples of over 150 labourers, informed SMC Chairperson Romualdo Fernandes.

Fernandes informed that the surprise blood test on the migrant labourers will continue as a precautionary measure. Sanguem PHC Sanitary Inspector Vassudev Naik informed that the migrant labourers despite being repeatedly told to do the blood test on regular basis as a precautionary measure fail to do so and this forced the authorities to conduct the surprise check up without prior intimation.

The blood samples collected from the labourers will be checked for malaria, dengue and falciparum, informed Naik.
