Musician Tome selected as King Momo for fifth time

PANJIM: The King Momo for Carnival 2017 has been finalised with musician Roque Tome Fernandes chosen to rule over Goa during the four-day festivity. This will be his fifth time as King Momo.

PANJIM: The King Momo for Carnival 2017 has been finalised with musician Roque Tome Fernandes chosen to rule over Goa during the four-day festivity. This will be his fifth time as King Momo.

A committee constituted by Goa Tourism selected Panjim resident Fernandes (65) who was one among four aspirants. 

A retired government employee, Fernandes is a well-known musician and a popular figure in the entertainment industry. He has played key roles in Mando festivals and many cultural events besides being a popular figure welcoming foreign cruise tourists at the MPT dock dressed as King Momo.

Thrilled to be King Momo again, Fernandes said, “I love Goa, I love to be King Momo and I am all set to enthrall Goa and all visitors to the State for the four-day Carnaval celebrations.”

King Momo’s entourage will lead the float parades at Panjim (Feb 25), Margao (Feb 26), Vasco (Feb 27) and Mapusa (February 28). 

Carnival float parades will also be held in Curchorem and  Shiroda on February 27 and at Ponda on Februay 28.
