PANJIM: NGO Savera has petitioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi questioning the wisdom of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in filing a closure report in the horrific case of a rape of a school girl in 2013.

In her petition, Savera head Tara Kerkar has sought Modi’s intervention to reinvestigate the case alleging the closure could be due to political pressure. “CBI is the country’s most trusted agency (but) now it looks like it is the most untrusted and incompetent (considering) it has submitted to the court that the accused is untraceable. It could also (be) closed due to some political pressure,” she alleged.

She claimed that the citizens are upset with the poor performance of the CBI and as such, she sought investigating the case to give the girl and her family justice. “A rape case of the minor should not be closed as it is a shameful act. The slogan Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao will be null and void,” she stated.

The NGO had last sent a letter to the PMO on January 10, 2017 regarding women’s safety in the country.

CBI had filed a closure report in the case, which is currently being heard by a Vasco court.
