SANGUEM: Fed up with the total blackouts in the village for the last five days, the villagers of Verlem, Salgini, Tudov, Nunem, Kurpem and other parts of Netravali Village Panchayat are in the process of leading a mass agitation to the office of Sanguem Electricity Department on Monday.

The details of the agitation will be chalked and finalised during the gram sabha to be held on Sunday at Netravali Village Panchayat, informed Deputy Sarpanch Abhijit Dessai.

Dessai informed that since the past five days, the villagers are facing untold hardship in terms of power and drinking water supply.

“Due to a total power failure in the remote villages, drinking water supply is also severely affected and the villagers are facing extreme hardship,” said Dessai.

“Leaving without power supply for a day could be understood, but it is totally unbearable to live without power for five continuous days,” added Dessai.

The power supply has also affected agricultural activities in the village. With the majority of villagers having engaged with dairy farming for their livelihood, the power failure has led to a total stoppage to the functioning of dairy equipment which runs on power thereby affecting the activities.

While in cities and towns, the power supply gets restored in a couple of hours, the villagers residing in remote areas wonder as to why they are meted in a step-motherly way by the Electricity Department.
