VASCO: In order to improve the cleanliness standards at Goa international airport, Airport Authority of India (AAI) has awarded a new Mechanized Environmental Support Services- (MESS) contract to a new agency which will start its operations from April 1.

According to AAI Goa Airport Director B C H Negi, the agency for new MESS contract has been selected based on quality and cost analysis in which 80 percent weightage has been given to the technical capability and only 20 percent weightage is given to financial capability of the agencies who participated in the tender.

He said that the new agency is presently working at big airports like Chennai and Hyderabad.

AAI has kept a provision of manpower for each washroom so that from flooring to washrooms, everything inside the airport terminal building will be kept clean round the clock.

Negi further informed that AAI has also planned to have world class retail and F&B facilities at Goa airport. “Presently, we don’t have world class retail and Food and Beverage facilities at Goa airport and thus to ensure similar facilities we have floated Request for Qualification (RFQ) for selecting vendors, who will be participating in Request for Proposals (RFP),” he said.

“The technical and financial criteria will ensure that only those agencies owning international and domestic brands will be able to participate in the RFQ/RFP. Before selection of the vendors AAI Goa has already started works to create additional areas in the terminal to have more retail and F&B facilities,” Negi explained.

He also claimed that to address the maintenance issues related to floor carpet in security hold area, AAI has initiated work to replace the carpet with vitrified tiles and the work will be completed by April 2017. “Work is being taken up in phased manner to ensure that passenger movement is not disturbed as far as possible,” he said.
