PANJIM: North Goa District Collector Nila Mohanan has filed a complaint with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) against the multi service operator (MSO) BRDS for failing to restore the cable services despite a warning.

“I have filed a complaint with TRAI through the Directorate of Information & Publicity (DIP) for appropriate action against the MSO. A complete report is submitted to the DIP,” she told Herald on Friday.

Earlier, in the evening, after a complete blackout for the last six days, cable TV connections were partially restored in some parts of the district after Mohanan warned to approach TRAI against the MSO. Mohanan had called for a meeting of all local cable operators following a series of complaints from consumers that cable operations were abruptly stopped. At the meeting, also attended by the representatives of the BRDS office in Hubli, Mohanan asked the firm to rectify the problem by Friday evening or face action.

“We received a number of complaints from the consumers that cable transmission had stopped. Accordingly I called for a meeting of local cable operators who are drawing signals from BRDS. Their representative told me that there are technical problems due to which signals are disrupted. I have given them a deadline to take all steps and resolve the issue by 4 pm (Friday). If not, I will write to TRAI with the consultation of Directorate of Information & Publicity,” she told reporters after a second round of talks on Friday.

She granted the MSO a week to rectify all the problems such as the set top box not accepting the old cards, etc. It was pointed out that the STPs now need a smart card, to which Mohanan said, “It is the MSO’s responsibility to take corrective measures, although they have told us there is no problem. All the concerned should resolve the problem within one week, even if they have to travel to Hubli. Else, we will approach TRAI.”

However, till late evening the cable connections were not fully restored while in many areas, the cable continued to remain shut.
