Open access for the public to the platform Margao Railway Station

An absence of security has meant that the general public can enter the new platform without fear of being stopped by the railway police

Margao: The Konkan Railway Station at Margao has left an unmanned entry to the newly constructed Platform No 4 at Margao Railway station. The opening in the eastern wall along the railway allows the public to enter the platform and climb any train, unchecked. Ironically, the main entrance of the railway station has a metal detector with round the clock security manning that entrance.

Herald observed several people were entering freely from the road onto the platform. The lone two railway police officers, who were sitting in front of a desk on the railway overbridge, were only issuing fines to people who eat gutka and pan. They admitted that they were not checking who enters and leaves the platform. Herald spoke to the Regional Railway Manager for Konkan Railway and informed him about the lack of security, CCTV and even metal detectors at the entrance of the platform. He informed that the Platform No 4 is a new platform which has a ticket counter and that the opening is kept for the public. He justified by saying that most of the trains come along platform No 1, 2 and 3 for which the entry is from the main gate. "Only terminating training are arriving on Platform 4 since more facilities are yet to come up". He stated that there is no security risk since security officers are roaming around.
