PANJIM: A Goan family holidaying in Doha reached out to a cabinet minister informing him about an alleged drug addict vandalising their house in Anjuna. Siolim MLA and Minister for Water Resources Vinod Palyekar, who was in Russia, contacted the local police demanding immediate action.

The minister’s office has confirmed the development claiming such menace will not be tolerated.

According to the details available, H Fernandes posted her grievance on Facebook, seeking the minister’s intervention to give her family justice. It is learnt that her husband works in Doha and she along with family was in the country on a holiday.

“Life in Anjuna has gone so bad that we the people of Anjuna will never be able to live in peace. It so happens that one drug addict from Kerala, full on drugs with other friends at late evening i.e. around 8pm jumped the compound wall, entered my house and see the damages done,” she posted on Facebook. “He even went to hint (hit) my maid, (but) with Goa’s grace they looked (locked) themselves in the bedroom and shouted for help. Soon the police were called and took him to the station. I called the police station and spoke to the duty officer. Officer Keran arrested this person,” she posted, requesting Palyekar’s help.

She went on to state that Goa is losing tourists due to such ‘dirty and corrupt local tourist’.  “There are so many good foreign tourists waiting to come to Goa,” read some of the extracts. “Appreciate if you take up this matter to higher level and request the Home Ministry to take necessary action. I don’t know how I am going to recover the loss for the damages and my family is in real shock,” she said as she also posted pictures of the damages at her house in Anjuna. The local police was not available for comment.
