PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in his first meeting with the top police brass has directed them to crack the whip on drug trade and late night parties. No tolerance to crime against women was another point stressed by the Chief Minister. “I have given very clear instructions to police to crack down on the late night parties and the trafficking or sale of drugs in the State. Also, no tolerance to crime against women,” Parrikar told media persons. The Chief Minister meeting with senior officials of police department on Tuesday, and asked them to remove encroachments on the highways in the form of makeshift stalls selling various commodities including helmets. “All such sales along the highways will be restrained except for sale of local vegetables, if it is not hindering traffic movement,” he said. Stressing on the safety of women, Parrikar said that crimes against women would not be tolerated in the State. “Every complaint of crime against women would be investigated in detail and thorough action taken,” he said. The statement attains importance in the backdrop of rape and murder of British citizen Danielle McLaughlin, who was found murder at Palolem, last week. “In this case, police have acted quickly. The arrest was made immediately,” Parrikar said.

Responding to an allegation from the victim’s family members that more than one person was involved in crime, the Chief Minister said, “If that is the case, I would call for a detail report of the investigation. I will seek a brief from the police on this aspect.”
