PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has assured to resolve the civic issues under the ongoing Smart City mission within a year.

“Panjim will be a role model for other cities in the country with world class infrastructure. All issues pertaining to water supply, electricity, garbage and traffic management will be taken up under the smart city mission, within a year,” he assured in his Action Plan for Panjim, unveiled on Thursday.

The CM also stated he is committed to the promises made by BJP in the 2017 election manifesto for the constituency. He said that the Action Plan endorses the 2017 election manifesto even as some new assurances are incorporated.

One of the major election promises is decongesting Panjim by relocating government offices and commissioning an additional exclusive 27 MLD water treatment plant at Opa. “The water treatment plant will be exclusively for Panjim. This will also tackle water woes at Kadamba plateau. The plant will be ready within 3-4 months,” he said.

Assuring to resolve parking problems in the city, the BJP candidate proposes to convert the PWD garage into a multi storey parking and a similar exercise to be carried out at Junta House and Health Department. The offices in the Junta House and the Directorate of Health Services will be shifted to another location. The Mala bridge is also expected to be completed soon, that will further ease traffic congestion.

Parrikar assured to commission a solid waste management plant at Bainguinim, make Panjim soak-pit free by 2020 by planning and building new sewerage system, enhancing and replacing the old system wherever necessary, providing underground power cabling, a new market at Ribandar, connecting footbridge and playground for Ribandar and resolving the crematorium issue.

He also promised to introduce an effective public transport system throughout the constituency with the addition of new link roads, covering the constituency by CCTV network with centralized control centre, developing the St Inez creek on a priority basis using modern and scientific techniques, developing recreational and open spaces within the constituency including a new world-class stadium at Parade Ground-Campal are the other salient features in the manifesto.
