PANJIM: Congress party on Friday called on Goa Governor Dr Mridula Sinha demanding her immediate intervention to protect the State administration, which is on the verge of collapse with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar suffering from an undisclosed sickness and two ministers admitted in the hospitals with serious ailments.

The delegation headed by All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretary A Chellakumar, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Chief Chandrakant Kavlekar, has demanded that Governor seek the fitness certificate of Chief Minister to ensure that he is fit enough to run the government.

“Since you are Constitutionally the repository of power of the State, it requires that you take affirmative action as a Governor, as being done by your counterparts in several non-BJP ruled States, else, silence would not only mean that you are tacitly giving your approval to this sordid state of affairs but also failing to uphold the Constitution and Constitutional values, functions and duties, for which you have taken oath,” Congress said in its memorandum. “In terms of Article 163 of the Constitution of India, there is a well-defined role to the discharged by the Chief Minister and his Cabinet. In the circumstances as prevalent today, the incumbent Chief Minister and his Cabinet have failed to discharge this envisaged role. Article 154 of the Constitution vests you the authority with executive and supervisory powers,” the party said.
