PANJIM: The main accused in the attack on tourists at Merces, Lawrence Dias, has a string of offenses registered against him, as indicated in the Old Goa Police report to the High Court of Bombay at Goa.

In its report, the investigation team fears that Dias, who allegedly provoked the violence at Merces while on bail in a rape conviction, could repeat this. The police have cited three cognizable cases – one of which led to seven years of jail – and four non-cognizable offences registered against him at different police stations. Six offences were registered between 2014 and 2016.

As such the police have sought approval to cancel the bail granted to him by the High Court in March 6, 2014 “as the accused is likely to repeat similar offenses under the cover of bail order.”
