PANJIM: The otherwise political rivals, on Sunday stood united at Manchester, UK to support Team India during its World Cup match against Pakistan.

Goa’s Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai posted picture with Congress MLA Atanasio Monserrate and BJP leader Dattaprasad Naik outside the stadium before the crucial match.

“Cheers to India. We belong to different parties and we might not be together in Goa but we are here united to support for our country. We are together for India,” Sardesai said in a video released through his twitter account.

Both Sardesai and Monserrate had left for UK on June 13 sparking various speculations. However, the speculations were put to rest after Deputy Chief Minister announced that they are there to watch the cricket match.

Monserrate had quit Sardesai’s Goa Forward Party (GFP) in May to contest Panjim by-election against BJP. He defeated BJP, the alliance partners of GFP.

BJP leader Naik had contested against Monserrate in Taleigao constituency during 2012 Assembly election and also against his wife, Jennifer in 2017 election, both times unsuccessfully.

Sardesai took on to twitter to announce : As announced earlier we have a All Party Goan support to TeamIndia at Old Trafford today for the #India v/s Pakistan World Cup match at Manchester! With @dattaprasad_9 of @BJP4Goa, Babush (Atanasio) Monserratte of @INCGoa, Pritesh Desai, Suraj Lotlikar and others.
