PANJIM: Following EEFL’s failure to complete LED street lightning before the Ganesh festival, the State Electricity Department has decided to repair the old fixtures wherever necessary throughout the State.

Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar, after a review meeting with Electricity Department officials, said that the company EEFL is unable to supply LEDs in time.

“We had assured in the Assembly to complete installing LED street lights before Ganesh festival but the company has expressed its inability to complete the same due to short supply,” he said.

Madkaikar said he has instructed all 10 divisions of the Electricity Department to purchase 500 CFL fixtures each and fix before Chaturthi.

“This will cost the department Rs 40 lakh. The CFL fixtures would be fixed only where required,” Madkaikar said.

He stated that EEFL has completed installing LED street lights in most areas and only a few are remaining. Besides, he said, instructions have also been issued for repair and replacements of transformers wherever required on urgent basis.
