VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer, Agnelo Fernandes, has sternly told the Vasco railway station officials to clear the un-segregated waste within 30 days failing which they would invite his wrath.

At a meeting with the railway officials on Wednesday, Fernandes reportedly raised the issue of dumping of un-segregated waste by the railways near the Mata School thereby causing health hazard for students and locals.

“Today I have issued directions to the railways to clear their un-segregated waste within 30 days, failure of which will invite wrath from me. I also informed the railways that we will not tolerate any dumping of waste and even warned them not to play with the lives of the students or else be ready to face consequences,” Fernandes said

“Cleanliness of the platform is not the only thing that railways are supposed to do. Surrounding of railway yard also should be taken up by them. I have also assured the railway officials of the MMC help, but only after they clear the present garbage,” he added.

Meanwhile, commenting on the initiative to make Vasco a model city, Fernandes said that he would like to explore the possibility of making municipal square as ‘Free WiFi zone’. “I have many things in mind for this city. I want to make Vasco a model city. Installation of CCTV cameras in the city, WiFi zone etc using CSR funds are part of the plan. I want the citizens to give their suggestions and participate in our efforts so that together we can achieve our goal,” he informed.
