MARGAO: Margao Town Police on Wednesday arrested one Jairam Rawat Mirdha, a native of Rajasthan and seized from him spurious cigarettes worth around Rs 3.16 lakh. 

According to the police, they were tipped off at around 2 pm that a Bolero goods carrier was distributing tobacco products at Aquem. Accordingly, a police team led by Police Inspector Kapil Nayak rushed to the site and found the vehicle opposite the Costa grounds. 

They found various foreign cigarettes in the vehicle which had neither the ‘Maximum Retail Price’ nor did Jairam have any bill to show from where he got the stock. Some of the brands seized by the police are Esse Light, Esse Menthol, LMN Fine Cut, Golden Virgin Tobacco. 

Other police personnel that formed the team were Haresh Naik, Amin Naik, Gorak Gauns, Shashank Sukarkar and Sameer Nagnori.
