Resident request removal of illegal scrap yard

A resident of Malim-Betim, Olavo AG D’Lima Fernandes has written to the Penha de Franca Panchayat demanding the removal of an illegal scrap yard at Betim as it went up in flames recently and had caused damage to adjacent nearby houses.

Speaking to Herald, Fernandes said “The residents of Malim-Betim object to this illegal scrap yard fearing massive fire accidents. Recently there was fire caught at the yard which damaged adjacent houses and mine too causing loss of Rs 40,000”

“How can a panchayat permit to run a scrap yard at a residential area? My wife’s health has been affected due to inhaling toxic smoke on the night of fire. Earlier the owner had promised me to close down the yard but now he has again started the works” said Fernandes

Meanwhile, Fernandes has written to the Directorate of Panchyats, Deputy Collector and also to the Porvorim Police Inspector demanding immediate action against the scrap yard.
