PANJIM: The Shadow Council for Margao while welcoming Margao Municipal Council’s (MMC) decision to collect only segregated waste, appealed to residents to hand over only segregated waste to the municipal workers.

In a press note issued by Savio Coutinho for the Shadow Council of Margao, he urged MMC to transport the wet waste separately and not to mix with the dry waste as transporting mixed waste will only discourage people from segregating their waste.

While urging the council to adhere to the days for collecting dry waste which will be collected only twice a week, he said a proper system has to be set in place to collect glass, tube lights, bulbs and such types of waste generally is not collected by the municipal workers.

He also urged the council to put in place a system to deal with garden waste as there is lots of such waste generated in the city especially the coconut husk as this waste is proving to be a nuisance being generally dumped by the roadside.

While extending its support and co-operation, the Shadow Council of Margao also cautioned that they shall not hesitate to expose any form of lethargy or lackadaisical attitude on the part of the council.
