PONDA: The retired non-government employees have demanded Rs 9000 as monthly pension and other allowances.

The demand was made at a meeting of Retired Non-Government Employees Association held at Ponda, on Tuesday.

Association Secretary Sanjay Nagvenkar said that as per the Retired Employees Pension scheme of 1995, the retired non-government employees are entitled to Rs 9000 as monthly pension and other allowances.

Stating that the pension issue of these retired employees is pending since 2009, Nagvenkar said that the government should grant their right, failing which, he threatened to launch nationwide agitation to press for their demand. To intensify and extend the scope of agitation, he appealed the retired non-government employees in Goa to join and become members of the Association.

Association President Ramesh Sheyte said that after raising voice at Delhi by the Association, the Bill in this regard was passed in Lok Sabha due to the effort of N K Premchandan MP from Kerala. However, the Rajya Sabha is yet to pass the Bill. “For this to happen, we need to show our might; success can be achieved only when more and more retired non government employees join the Association for life time,” he said.

Earlier, the Association also held meetings at Bicholim, Curchorem and Vasco.
