MAPUSA: Rising water levels on Sunday had a minor impact on shacks located along the beaches of North Goa.

According to available information, the beaches in North Goa witnessed a rise in the water levels between 3.20 pm and 4.30 pm as the water entered the shacks.

It may be recalled that the Indian Meteorological Department had on Friday issued a warning that the sea would be rough along the Goa coast for the next two days. And in view of the weather alert by the Indian National Centre for Ocean Informative Service, Drishti Lifesaving Services had also cautioned visitors to beaches to avoid venturing into the sea.

Since they were already alerted that the water level will rise on April 21 and 22, the shack operators were prepared and had already removed their electronic appliances and other equipment from the shacks.

A shack owner from Keri-Pernem said, “The situation was not as like the one we experienced earlier. This time only the sea water level increased and the water just entered the shacks. Since we were informed that the water level would rise, we had already removed all our electrical appliances and other material from the shacks.”

Seby, a shack owner from Candolim said, “The water level rose between 3.20 pm and 4.30 pm. Since my shack is located at a height, the water just hit the fence.”

Sources informed that many shacks from North Goa witnessed a rise in the water level as the water entered almost 40 per cent shacks located at Candolim and in other areas too.
