MARGAO: The menace of roadside, illegal vending at South Goa Planning and development authority wholesale market has still not ended.

Surprisingly the trade has almost doubled, with vendors now coming and selling not just vegetables and fish, but also groundnuts and masaala too.

The menace on the main road is going on under the watch of Margao Municipal Council, where as Oppo collector is taking money for the vending on the road sides.

On Sunday it was a chaotic scene on this Seraulim road, where nearly about 50 vendors where standing on the roadside with their four-wheelers with people stopping their vehicles and blocking the entire road.

Sanjay Mendes, a local said these vendors had covered half the road and caused total traffic jam on the road. Surprisingly, the MMC is charging Rs 30 to 50 for the trade done illegally on road sides. Will this problem be ever solved, he asked.

Anthony Fernandes said that the fish market smell and the garbage problem still continue. The MMC had made a big show by removing the vendors at the SGPDA wholesale fish market, but they have come back in full force, he added.
