SANGUEM: The Sanguem Municipality has asked the Water Resources Department to disconnect water supply to houses discharging dirty water into the open drain, despite warning by the civic body.

Following complaints from some concerned citizens that some households were releasing waste water into the open municipal drains and Sanguem River particularly at Kutiwada, the municipal council, after due inspection, had issued notices to the erring persons to stop the flow of waste water into the open drains and Sanguem river.

The municipality reportedly gave several opportunities to the erring persons to rectify the problem. However, despite the notices and several reminders being sent by the municipality, some continued releasing dirty water into the open drains and the Sanguem River thereby polluting the river water.

Since the erring persons paid no heed to the notices, the municipality, as a last resort, issued notices to the water supply department to disconnect the water supply to eight families in the municipal area for failure to adhere to the municipal notices.

In the meantime, the citizens from ward No 9 of Sanguem Municipal Council have urged for immediate re-elections in the ward after the same having fallen vacant for more than a year.

The ward remains without a councillor since the time Deepak Marathe who was elected to represent the ward went to USA for good.

The citizens have urged for immediate re-elections as the development activities in the ward are hindered in the absence of the ward councillor.
