Security tightened along coastal belt following Lanka attacks

Police intensify motorcycle patrolling, activate local intelligence network; Hotels asked to check visitors

CANACONA/MARGAO/VASCO: In view of the recent bomb explosions in Sri Lanka, police have increased surveillance of popular beaches in the State.

Colva police have tightened security by launching motorcycle patrolling along the entire coastal belt starting from Majorda beach to Colva beach covering Varca beach and going right up to Cavelossim or Mobor beach.

The motorcycle patrol will not only go around the beaches but also check the hotels on the coastal belt besides looking out for suspicious persons moving around on the beaches or around hotels.

In Canacona, police sources said that they have intensified patrolling in coastal areas as well as all over Goa and local intelligence bureau and beat police is activated to gather information on movement of any suspect in and around the beaches.

Sources told this correspondent that hotels are issued advisory to adhere to strict security check at their hotels.

Verna police said that they have intensified the patrolling in beach areas which are under their jurisdiction. 

Police are also visiting luxury hotels to instruct the staff to take precautions and keep strict checking of the tourists and visitors.

Verna Police Inspector Sandesh Chodankar informed that the beach patrolling has been intensified following the recent blasts in Sri Lanka. “We can’t take any chance and our police personnel are visiting every hotel and instructing their hotel staff to do thorough checking of guests and other visitors,” he said.

“Identification of visitors, CCTV recording of the premises is being asked to do. They are being informed that if any hotel staff finds any suspicious activity, abandoned bag etc then to immediately inform police about it,” PI Chodankar said.
