MAPUSA: The residents of Porbawado in Calangute are irked over the overflow of sewerage water at a residential-cum-commercial building called St Cruz Plaza.

Sources said that sewage tank of St Cruz Plaza at Porbawado has been overflowing for the past twenty days, but the authorities have failed to take any action.

Locals said that when the problem of sewage water overflow started, they complained to the Calangute panchayat and the health department, and both departments acted on the issue by conducting inspection of the site and issued notices to the residents of the building directing them to clear the problem of overflow.

But even after conducting several inspections and issuing notices several times, the residents of the building have failed to stop the sewage water overflow.

The health department and local the panchayat further wrote a letter to the electricity department, requesting them to cut the power supply to the building and to reconnect only once the problem is solved.

But locals said that the assistant engineer of the Calangute electricity department Daniel Rodriguez declined to disconnect the connection.

Locals said the water has been flowing from the building through the internal lane of the ward and towards the main road leading to Calangute Circle.

Since Calangute roads are always busy roads, many people have slipped and fallen in the particular area, where the water is flowing.

Locals also said the area is stinking because of the dirty water which may further lead to sickness.

Sources also informed that the whole residential building have residents who are natives of different states. Several times the panchayat had also directed then to form a society, but they failed to do that too.
