PONDA: The laying of sewerage pipeline network for STP in Ponda is progressing and due to which most of the roads in the city are dug up.

Due to this work, the roads are made one way at some places. But despite the diversion, buses and other vehicles entering the city are flouting the rules and causing traffic congestion especially during rush hours.

There are no proper barricades for safety of public; the workers are also not provided with safety equipment. Locals complain that during night, traffic congestion takes place and nobody controls it.

Further, the excavated mud is not only dumped on roadside but also on footpaths due to which pedestrians are forced to walk on middle of the road risking their lives.

Ponda resident Umesh Naik feared that if traffic chaos continues and the sewerage work is not properly monitored by the officials, there are chances of accidents and also risk of pedestrians hit by vehicles. He said that STP officials should properly monitor the traffic with help of Traffic Police near Maruthi temple in the town.
