PANJIM: The Goa government has challenged the Goa Human Rights Commission’s jurisdiction to direct the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police to conduct an inquiry into the alleged food scam during BRICS 2016, in the High Court of Bombay at Goa.

The Chief Secretary informed the Court that he has already conducted an inquiry into the matter and the Court directed him to submit the report. The matter has been adjourned to Wednesday.

GHRC had directed the Chief Secretary to report within 45 days after conducting an inquiry and fix  accountability on erring officials. GHRC outlined 28 points to be examined by the Chief Secretary while conducting the inquiry.

The Chief Secretary in his reply to GHRC had stated that the inquiry had been initiated and statements of police officials have been recorded and had sought another four weeks to complete the inquiry and submit his report.

Advocate Aires Rodrigues had complained to GHRC that the contract for Rs 51,60,000 was given to Amonkar Classic Caterers for supply of food to police personnel posted on duty for the BRICS summit but that the contract was sub-let to a contractor who prepared the food in an open space, which was unhygienic.
