State sees major victory despite losing 5.4 tmc of water

The CM as well as the Additional Solicitor General of India claimed it was a vindication of the stand taken by the State and the falsehoods provided by Karnataka were exposed

PANJIM: Even though Karnataka has been able to get 5.4 TMC of water diversion, the state government feels the verdict has been a major victory for Goa.

“I am happy that the Mhadei Tribunal with its final verdict has done justice to Goa. I thank the legal team and everyone who have fought relentlessly for protecting our lifeline Mhadei,” Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar tweeted from United State, where he is gone for regular health checkup for his ailment.  

Additional Solicitor General of India Atmaram Nadkarni, who spearheaded Goa’s case at the Mhadei Tribunal claimed a major victory for Goa in Tribunal’s verdict. 

“The Mhadei Tribunal has rejected every contention of Karnataka. Goas case fully upheld by Tribunal as it scrapped and rejected CWC Report which was base of Karnataka Case,” Nadkarni said here..

Nadkarni says that the tribunal came to it's own conclusion re yield in Mahadayi being 188 TMC and after that fully accepted Goa’s all and every demand, upheld requirements of Goa and allocated 5.4 TMC to Karnataka.

“Tribunal has passed severe strictures on Karnataka and their falsehood was completely exposed. The tribunal also found that Karnataka flouted orders of the Tribunal. Each and every demand of Goa was fully accepted,” he said.

Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai also claimed a major victory for Goa.

“It’s a victory for the people of Goa. Our stand has been vindicated. We have qualitatively and quantitatively won. Our party and our minister has been on the forefront of this struggle and on top of things right from the beginning and our legal team has been able to convince the tribunal of our reasonable prayer,” he said.

He continued, “I have been personally been monitoring the proceedings and We have demonstrated our commitment to the interests of Goemkars and our courage to stand up for it. We will study the decision and take the next steps.”
