PANJIM: After having accepted the recommendations of the Goa Lokayukta that suggested reopening the beach cleaning scam, the State government on Tuesday conveyed to the institution its decision to re-open the case by Anti Corruption Branch (ACB).

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had on December 2 said the government had accepted the recommendations of the Lokayukta in the beach cleaning scam. “We have taken the decision to accept the recommendations of the Lokayukta,” he had told media persons.

He had said the Lokayukta office will be informed about the government’s decision for further action. Accordingly, on Tuesday, Vigilance Department conveyed its decision to the Lokayukta to get the case re-investigated by ACB.

In September, the Lokayukta had submitted its report to the government recommending handing over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), within the stipulated period of three months.

The Lokayukta had found the then Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar guilty of “favouritism”, besides other irregularities in the beach cleaning case.
