VASCO: The airport taxi union has threatened to block point to point operations by the new car rental counter at the airport, even as the State administration has geared up to prevent any law and order situation at Dabolim International airport on Monday.

“We have no issues with car rental counter but if they engaged a private taxi to ferry passenger from point to point, the way we do, then, we will object because as per rule car rental counter is not supposed to do such business,” legal advisor and General Secretary of United Taximen Association (UTA) Herculan Dourado said.

“We feel that the State administration has been supportive of this Delhi operator who has come only to make money. Even in past a similar type of counter was opened at the airport but after we started agitating, the government closed it down,” he said, adding that they expect the administration to do the same this time as well.

Dourado said that till Saturday morning the airport taxi operators did not have a clue that the RTA had issued permission for the new car rental counter, though they have been objecting to the same since the day they saw a signboard about the counter and that they learnt about the move on Saturday during a meeting with deputy collector.

UTA President Sanjay Naik said since beginning they have been getting step-motherly treatment from the AAI and their demand for parking had not been accepted. “On Monday, if they try to do our business we will stop it. They are supposed to have maxi-cab to carry more than six passengers and not to use small cars,” he added.
