VASCO: Panic has gripped residents of Housing board colony in Upasnagar Sancoale after four different theft cases including three attempted theft cases reported in their area on Friday night. Residents have demanded action against the culprits and urgent steps to boost security.

According to the information, four house breaking cases were reported in the housing board colony at Upasnagar and in the residential area behind Kala Bhawan. Police informed that four house breaking cases occurred in Sancoale, however, three of them were of attempted thefts.

with no major loss to the family, except to one Hiremath family.

“The theft took place between Friday night and Saturday early morning. During our inquiry the residents complained that though the thieves broke open four houses in their area, the major loss of valuables including gold ornaments and cash was suffered by Hiremath family which is currently out of station. Once Hiremath is back, he would provide us loss detail and would also lodge a formal complaint before us,” a senior police officer from Verna police station said.

Meanwhile, series of theft cases in their area has left the residents fearing for their lives.

“The security arrangement here leaves a lot to be desired. Every night we see some anti-social elements roaming freely in our area. Some of them even were seen drinking alcohol near a school located in our area. If this continues, then, we might even consider moving out of this place, as the series of thefts of late has triggered panic among all of us,” a housing board resident said.

“We only demand that the police should take urgent steps to boost security in our area and should act against anti-social elements,” he said.
