PORVORIM: The government on Friday announced it would formulate and implement a comprehensive mobility plan for extensive connectivity across the State through Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC), providing exclusive transport system for students, tourists, women and senior citizens.

Proposing this in the Budget, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that in its implementation, the government intends to utilise hybrid and electric buses, in addition to regular buses for intra-city transportation.

“Under this project, five major cities will be connected to the main tourist spots through regular city bus service,” Parrikar said announcing a budgetary provision of Rs 150 crore for it.

Stating that road traffic has increased tremendously, the government has proposed new bus terminuses at Panjim, Mapusa and Bicholim in North Goa and Margao in South. “The upgradation of these terminuses with ultra-modern state of art facilities would be taken up on PPP basis,” the Chief Minister said.

Parrikar said the government also intends to draft and implement a dedicated traffic management plan for Panjim, Margao, Vasco, Mapusa and Ponda.

It has decided to review the three major schemes – insurance, fuel subsidy and replacement of old buses for private bus owners, and decided to contribute towards insurance premium of taxi owners.
