Transport dept to go cashless from Oct 1

PANJIM: The State Transport Department on Wednesday said it will not accept any cash payments from October 1, 2018.

A circular issued by Directorate of Transport says that as a stop gap arrangement and to prepare necessary groundwork for going completely cashless, all transactions, especially those exceeding Rs 1000 and above, will not be accepted in cash from July 1. 

Further cash payments will be accepted from 10 am to 1 pm only while cashless payments will be accepted from 10 am to 5pm. All the payments will have to be done by debit or credit cards in cashless mode only.

“In case the individual or applicant does not possess debit or credit card, then a challan will have to be generated by respective DDO,” adds the circular. 

POS machines will have to be used by the public to pay fees, taxes etc the circular states.
