CALANGUTE: Two persons were arrested on Wednesday by Calangute police, for allegedly murdering one Santano D’Costa (53), a resident of Saligao.

The arrested are identified as Santosh Vaidhonde (35), a resident of Mapusa and John Fernandes (56), a resident of Anjuna. 

According to Calangute PI Jivba Dalvi, sometime after midnight on Saturday, a quarrel broke out between D’Costa and accused on the verandah of Rakhi Bar in Naikawado, Calangute, which turned into a physical fight. D’Costa reportedly suffered serious injuries in the fight; and he was left lying at the spot profusely bleeding till the next morning, when he was found unconscious by some workers. 

Later, he was taken to Goa Medical College (GMC) Hospital, where he died on Wednesday. The post mortem report revealed that that the victim died of head injuries inflicted by a blunt force.

Dalvi informed that the police tracked down the accused after analysing the data from a cell phone found at the crime spot.  

The Calangute police have registered an FIR against the accused under Section 302 read with Section 34 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
