Two more Congress MLAs may join GFP

PANJIM: A day after the Congress was jolted by the sudden exit of two MLAs to join the BJP, there is more shock in store for the beleaguered party as two other MLAs are reportedly in talks with regional parties.

Sources revealed that in the coming days two other MLAs are likely to quit and join Goa Forward Party, an alliance partner of BJP in the government.

Sources reveal that the two leaders are upset that despite having a golden opportunity, Congress was unable to form the government. “The talks have been on and things would materialise in coming couple of days,” sources revealed.

On Tuesday two Congress MLAs – Dayanand Sopte and Subhash Shirodkar – joined BJP. With this the strength of the Congress in the 40-member House has been reduced to 14, bringing it on par with the BJP. The resignation of the two MLAs has also brought the strength of the House down to 38.

The BJP has 14 MLAs while its alliance partners MGP and GFP have three MLAs each. There are three Independents supporting the government.

Meanwhile, though there is talk regarding a replacement for Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who has been unwell, the BJP is yet to take any call on the issue.
