Two youth held for alleged rape

PANJIM: Two youth have been arrested and remanded to five days of police custody for allegedly raping a 41-year-old woman in a car and thereafter assaulting her. The victim, who sustained injuries owing to the attack on her, is undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College. 

The Panjim police informed that Gautam Raikar (25) of Sanvordem and Sarvesh Kauthankar (26) of Curchorem are charged with serious offences under Section 376 (rape), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 323 (causing hurt), 325 (causing grievous hurt) and 354 (assault with intent to outrage modesty) read with 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal code.

“The victim complained that the boys raped her in the car in the outskirts of Panjim on Wednesday night and later assaulted her. They tried to forcibly throw her out of the vehicle,” an officer, quoting the victim’s statement, said. The woman sustained injuries in the melee and is now undergoing treatment at the State-run hospital.
