PONDA: Two hundred students of Government High School at Davshirem-Usgao boycotted classes for the second day on Friday by staging a dharna at the under-renovation school.

The boycott is in protest of the slow pace of renovation of school building.

On being informed of the second day boycott, Education Director Gajanan Bhat and Deputy Director Ramkrishna Sawant rushed to the school, promised the students that the school would be reopened on Monday and convinced them to end the boycott.

Later, Bhat and Sawant inspected the renovated building and held a discussion with the parents. The parents requested the authorities to provide better facilities on urgent basis, including new benches for students. Bhat promised the parent to shift the students to the renovated school building in two days.

Meanwhile, the school has declared holiday on February 18, to facilitate the completion of the pending renovation work.
