VASCO: Stating that the Government land located in the heart of Vasco town should anyhow be utilized for greater public purpose, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida on Tuesday assured to raise the issue during winter session of the Goa legislative assembly that starts from Wednesday so that the issue can be brought to logical conclusion.

It may be recalled that a prime land admeasuring 3964 sq mtrs surveyed under Chalta Nos 21, 22 and 23 of PT, sheet no 88 of city survey of Vasco city was leased out to ‘Shree Dev Damodar trust’ (a trust formed by V M Salgaocar Brothers company) by state government  for 30 years for the construction of auditorium . Since the land remained unutilized and as the 30 years lease term ends on December 16 2017(Saturday) citizens, Vasco civic body as well as Vasco MLA wants that government should not renew or extend the lease and should take symbolic possession of land soon so that the prime land can be to utilized for a better and larger public purpose.

“I have already submitted a memorandum to the Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte demanding that the lease for the prime land which is in possession of ‘Shree Dev Damodar trust’ should not be renewed or extended anymore and government should take over the land from the trust so that the same can be used for some commercial project. Though this issue has been prolonging since last three decades but no Vasco MLA in past took efforts to get back this prime land. Anyways I have decided to raise this issue also in the assembly so that government can take back the land from trust soon after the expiry of lease period,” Almeida said.

He added that “I want to propose some commercial project in consultation with the people on this prime land as it is located right in the heart of city. For the time being till the commercial projects starts taking shape, I have decided to shift all hand carts from the city including fruit stall in this land for temporary period. Similarly we want to start the work on Vasco fish market and thus I am planning to build a shed to shift current fish market at this land for temporary period and once the fish market is ready the fish vendors will be shifted back to the fish market.”
