Vehicle Inspector caught accepting bribe suspended

PANJIM: Motor Vehicle Inspector Narayan Phadte attached to the Transport Department who was caught on camera at Polem check post allegedly ‘receiving illegal gratification’ has been placed under suspension by the department  with immediate effect pending further enquiry. 

“A motor vehicle inspector of Transport Department Narayan Phadte, who was caught on camera at Polem check post allegedly receiving illegal gratification, has been placed under suspension with immediate effect pending further enquiry. The file has been referred to government with a detailed confidential report for initiating further necessary action against the concerned officer. Suspension orders in this regard have been issued on August 13,” Transport Director Nikhil Desai said.

The inspector was caught accepting a bribe by members of the “Jagruk Canconkars” in the early hours of Saturday. ‘Jagruk Canconkars’ member Sandesh Teleikar said, “We found out that a driver who paid Rs 4000 was returned Rs 1000 when the RTO inspector was supposed to hand over Rs 1650 after deducting the tax of Rs 2350, when confronted with evidence, the officer admitted that he was taking extra money from the out of Goa vehicles coming in to Goa.”
